Short biography

Native of Madrid, began to study engineering at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) in the fall of 1998. In July 2003, he graduated from there as Engineer in Physics. From September 2003 to October 2007, Garcia-Patron worked as a Ph.D. Student at the Center for Quantum Information and Communication (QuIC) of the University of Brussels (ULB). From November 2007 till December 2010, he worked at the Center for Extreme Quantum Information Theory at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. December 2010 he was awarded an Alexander van Humboldt postdoctoral fellowship to join the Theory group of the Max-Planck Institute of Quantum Optics, where he worked till July 2013. From August 2013 until February 2014 he was FNRS (Belgian Research Council) Postdoctoral Fellow at QuIC. From September 2013 till December 2013 he was Visiting Fellow at the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences participating in the program “Mathematical Challenges in Quantum Information”. From March 2014 until September 2015 he benefited from a BELSPO return grant. Since October 2015 he hold a tenured position as FNRS Research Associate at Université Libre de Bruxelles.

Research interests

Garcia-Patron's research focuses on the study of quantum information processing with photonic systems. He has a solid background on quantum communication theory and quantum cryptography. More recently he has being working on the interplay between quantum computation complexity and photonic systems. He is also interested in non-locality, foundations of quantum mechanics and the connections between computational complexity theory and physics.
